Grandgent's Home Page
Welcome to my little corner of the web... The best things here are my programming
projects, photos, and music, but you can take a look at the rest of
this page for more info about me.
||I studied Computer Science at the University
of Massachusetts Amherst.
||I'm currently working full-time as a software developer.
||I once worked for a game development company called Media Magic (whose
name changed to Vipah).
I was a production assistant and eventually a programmer.
||I've written a variety of programs
including the Internet phone I use to videoconference with my family and the email client I've used
exclusively (at home) since 1998. For many years my platform of choice
was Win32, C++, without MFC. Nowadays I prefer to use C# when
possible. Some of my favorite programming areas are
networking, sound processing, MIDI music, and real-time 3D

Most of these were taken with an old Fuji FinePix 1400Z. Some of the
newer ones were taken with a Canon Powershot A310.
||I love music - listening, collecting, composing,
playing the piano. I generally listen to
house, trance, ambient, minimalist, and
game soundtracks. I also listen to tracked

And, I collect, record, encode, and occasionally remix music written for old synths like the Roland MT-32
and Sound Canvas SCC-1. In
||I like many types of computer games: first-person 3D,
racing, real-time strategy, role-playing, space flight-sim, retro-gaming &
emulated console games. Quite a while ago, when Quake was brand new to the world, I ran my own Quake news site called
Currently I enjoy playing Team Fortress 2 with my friends online.
||I've been doing sim racing for
awhile. I drove about 50,000 miles in Live for Speed before
switching over to iRacing when it was released in the summer of
2008. I believe iRacing is the most realistic and serious racing
simulation ever made available to the general public.
||Sci-fi is my favorite book and movie genre. My all-time favorite book is
Dune, by Frank Herbert. What? You haven't read it yet? Buy it or borrow
it from me!
||I really like Japanese food. You can see some of my favorite
|| I studied the Japanese language for two
semesters at UMass, and now I continue to study on my
own (and at an online school called JOI!). I passed the JLPT
level 2 exam held on Dec. 7th, 2008.
